Independence Day!

I was going to write about my angst as a writer today. About the fact, you face rejection every time you send out a query, or pitch to an agent, or enter a contest. That people seem to think putting together 100,000 words is easy, and if only they had the time to write a book they would. That sometimes I don't know why I write, I just do because it's something I can't stop.

Then I woke up this morning and realized that today is independence day back home in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

So I decided, Hell if it's independence day who the hell cares about the angst I do what I do. I write and I'll keep writing until I reach my goal and beyond. To hell with those who think it's OK to belittle me or condescend to me. It's my independence day as well.

And Good day to you!

So I really had no idea what I would be writing about today. That maybe due to the fact I haven't slept well in a while. And apparently the image reloads have been disabled. So I guess I'll leave you with a quote from Mr. Anthony Bourdain.

"Travel changes you. As you move through this life and this world you change things slightly, you leave marks behind, however small. And in return, life - and travel - leaves marks on you. Most of the time, those marks - on your body or on your heart - are beautiful. Often, though, they hurt."
Anthony Bourdain (The Nasty Bits: Collected Varietal Cuts, Useable Trim, Scraps, and Bones)

Have a wonderful day and remember even if you can't travel you can still experience something new by stepping outside your comfort zone.

Music Monday! Bond

No it's not the Bond you're thinking of. Bond is an all female string quartet. When I feel the need for instrumental with a bit of an edge this is what I listen to.

People of Interest: Bob Fosse.

AHHH!

So in addition to not being  able to find the book I know I own. The book I really want to read. I dropped my laptop and now have to work from a spider webbed screen. Hubby has the idea that if the laptop keeps working (BTW I've backed up my manuscripts) then we change out the screen. In the meantime I'll keep working from my damaged baby hopefully we can afford a new one.

People of Interest: The IT Geek!

So many of us have no idea who that dude is. He may walk around in a polo and a pair of Khakis or a pair of Jeans and a comic book T-shirt. But the IT guy is the guy that knows how to fix that pesky thing called a computer.

He speaks in a language most of us do not understand. And when you look at him in absolute puzzlement he wonders how you managed to live this long. But he's the guy you turn to when you've lost all your info, all your pictures and in general want to shoot the screen that keeps blinking.

He'll get you that new monitor, rebuild your tower, and make sure your documents go the the right printer. Though it may not happen exactly when you want it. Especially when you manage to infect your computer with a virus for the umpteenth time and he may grumble at you. However he'll get you back up and running.

Creative Writing!

So I'm now helping out the 11 year-old with her creative writing extra credit project. Because that's what it called for now. Because surprise, surprise, like us adults the kiddies have a hard time coming up with titles. And like us adults in the  she has no idea why she's supposed to edit. Now I don't use the term edit with her because when I was ranting and raving about my own work she looked at me in confusion whenever I mentioned the word edit.

Let me just say she knows what a synopsis is and a first draft as well because they teach them that in school. But I think their version of editing is looking for spelling errors. Which is fine. But my daughter lives in her own world and when I read the story, I could tell that half of it was stuck in that world. So now I'm trying to gently ask her questions about her story to see if she'll put them down.

Or do you think I'm being a crazy writer mom?

PS My friend Jeffe Wrote these two post Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket Which I was stuck on for a while and when I went back there was  Lamy llamas and falling stars Which I'd missed because I'd been caught up thinking about the other one. (I was also the awkward girl growing up.)

People of Interest: Peter Minshall

People give me a confused look whenever I say the word Mas. I know they're thinking Mass, as in going to church, specifically the Catholic church. Which leads them to look at me quizzically since I tend to mention costumes and music that moves through my body. Mas is light and color and sound and people and passion.

Peter Minshall is a Trinidadian born, Masman. A caribbean treasure who has managed to bring forth the art in the chaos. I think these two videos show you way better than I could ever explain, who he is and what he does.
